As you can see… the keyboard has a huge number of digital instruments and beats. I cannot change instruments in the dark BECAUSE I cannot read the menu at all. So I got to wondering… if I could paint it with glow in the dark paint.
I had a theory that I decided to test.
I knew that glow in the dark paint was more brilliant on a WHITE surface than a BLACK surface. What I didn’t know was how much more brilliant. If the contrast was high enough I could just paint the entire surface instead of trying to paint just the letters (which I wouldnt even attempt).
It turns out… you can! You can slather any black-and-white surface with glow in the dark paint and the text becomes quite legible in the dark. Unfortunately though… doing this requires a pretty thick application of glow in the dark paint. It is very visible in the light.
So theres a tradeoff. You end up with a messy-looking keyboard in natural light that you can read at night. You give up a little of the day for the night.
I thought it was interesting and hope someone else finds it interesting too.
When i was a kid I liked to decorate my school supplies. Just by experimenting I discovered that if you use a red permanent marker on a black plastic surface… you get some really cool metallic gold look.
I have no idea why.
The only word of caution I would give is that the ink has a nasty habit of rubbing off so i would use some form of resin or sealer to prevent that.
It is going to be a jewelry, apparel, and accessory store that specializes in creepy-cute things. Gheistly already has a lot of her stuff up on Tumblr and you can find a link for that under ‘contact’.
